Woman of the Week – Emily Buster

Here at Executive Elements, we like to feature fantastic women we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting women who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.

My Name:
Emily Buster

My Current Job/Company:
Development Officer / Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS). ETSS is a community based 501c3 organization that helps new arrivals from all countries establish roots and gain self-sufficiency in Central Ohio.

My Work:
As is common with nonprofits, I wear several hats. I write grants, help with coordination of our fundraising efforts, and assist in amplifying our recognition in the community. I also work in the Youth Department overseeing the high school tutoring program, and am pursuing certification as a trainer in Trauma Responsive Care.

My Passion:
Family and Service.

My Family:
Damon (husband of 15 years) and Ezra (7 year old son).

My Hero or Heroes:
My grandmothers. They both raised 3 kids as single parents. What they accomplished never ceases to amaze me. I find so much strength in their memories.

My Escape:
Every year I go on a trip with my 3 best friends from college. We laugh, eat lots of guacamole, and just enjoy each other’s company. I am counting down the days.

My Pet Peeve:
When people make assumptions about an entire group of people based on their experience with one person.

My Indulgence:
Chocolate.

My Roots:
My family is spread all over the place. My roots don’t necessarily come from location but from the unconditional love I received and continue to receive from my parents. I believe firmly that all humanity is connected, and that grounds me and guides my faith.

My Future:
Soccer Mom, passionate advocate, and more travel.

My Favorite Quote:
“Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of serving shame.”
~ Brene Brown

My Accessory:
Big bags, deep breaths, and lots of hair ties.

My advice to Young Women:
You are worthy and you belong!

How I Balance it All:
Supportive husband, Google calendar, and a boss who gets it.
