Woman of the Week: Mindi Israel

Here at Executive Elements, we like to feature fantastic women we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting gals who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.

Mindi Israel

My Current Job/Company:
Financial Services Industry Director / Microsoft

My Birthdate:
09-02-74

My Work:
I partner with large enterprises in the financial services industry to help businesses innovate, transform, and grow through the use of great technology. I help connect relevant solutions and resources which align to my customers’ strategic goals and objectives. We’re living in exciting times where all industries, including financial services are undergoing major transformation, the industries are shifting and the technology around us is revolutionizing. It’s a fascinating time to be working in the cross-section of IT and financial services, lots of divergent forces, changing business models, and new customer expectations.

My Passion:
People: cultivating meaningful relationships; beginning with my inner-circle, my family and close friends; my work; being a role model for others; fitness and style.

My Family:
Koreanna, 11; Maren, 8. Being their mom is an incredible gift, I’m the one who is truly blessed!

My Heroes:
I cannot narrow to a single hero. Mine are those that precede me and have pioneered the way, have done the heavy lifting, taken the risks or had the courage to make a difference and pave a path before me so I can experience freedoms, opportunities, and gain learnings to create a better way. I hope in some way I can in turn help pioneer and do the same for others.

My Escape:
I have a few outlets: listening to music, working out, catching a handful of peaceful moments in the still of the night or early am, and enjoying a scenic view in nature, anywhere I can hike, jog, or take a quiet walk to clear my thoughts.

My Pet Peeve:
Closed mindedness; lack of accountability; negativity; entitlement.

My Indulgence:
Vacationing well; a weekend nap during the day; massages a few times a year and great food / wine.

My Roots:
Modest upbringing; hard work ethic; church as a focal point; follow through and dedication; taking time for others; actions speak louder than words.

My Future:
Vibrant; interesting; continually evolving; fulfilling; never losing my sense of humor and laughing a lot.

My Quote on Life:
Don’t wait for inspiration. Become it.

My Accessory:
Love fashion, so it’s a great handbag, shoe, or scarf. A favorite scent: Creed or Coco Chanel. And always my phone.

My Advice to Young Women:
Lead with strength and kindness in all that you do, be gracious. Take time to be reflective daily, know yourself. Never stop dreaming, but ultimately define your goals, write down a plan of action, commit and do. Everything else is a matter of preparation and timing.

How I Balance it All:
There is rarely perfect harmony and balance, something is always a bit lopsided. However, that’s okay. I live by calendaring and planning. I also schedule ‘unplanned time’ deliberately either in my day if possible, or during my week/end. I plan outward regularly and near-term daily, sometimes hourly! What feels balanced is different for everyone. For myself, if I can find time to breathe some fresh air (or exercise), laugh a little, knock the pressing items off the list, have a meaningful interaction(s) and get some decent sleep, life is pretty good!

Black hairband on my wrist. My hair goes up and down and sideways all day!

My Advice to Young Women:

Live your values and don’t let others define you. Have great faith you are always loved no matter how you feel about yourself or your accomplishments.

How I Balance it All:
Often you need to make choices and say NO or not yet. Balance for me is understanding my commitments and trying very hard not to overload them. I am surrounded by a very strong family at home and work, however, a wrench is always thrown into the mix so I am learning to leave more space for the unexpected.

Woman of the Week – Laura Bennett

Each week, we feature a fantastic new woman we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting gals who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.

Laura Bennett

My Current Job/Company: CEO and co-founder of Embrace Pet Insurance

My Birthday: March 2, 1966

My Work: I’m the face of Embrace Pet Insurance, the “chief embracer” – and am involved in just about everything to do with Embrace Pet Insurance.

My Passion: I’m passionate about entrepreneurship and building an amazing business…..and creating the quality to go along with that is just incredible. On a personal side, I’m passionate about my family. And I absolutely love traveling off the beaten path. I also love eating food – anything from the fanciest restaurant to a random little cantina in California that serves the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in my entire life.

My Family: Two daughters, Ellie and Erin, 8 and 6; my husband, John, our three cats and nine fish.

My Heroes: I think everyone’s a hero in their own lives. In my life, my mother and my grandmother have inspired me. My grandmother led an incredibly challenging life with moves and divorces and racial bias and had so much backbone and resolve. I still have the watch she bought for herself as her symbol of independence.

My Escape: Reading, long hot baths, long drives by myself. And, I love doing jigsaw puzzles; it’s very meditative.

My Pet Peeves: Fickle or fake people. Oh, and when people don’t use their turn
signal!

My Indulgence: Chocolate, coffee, massages, and eating pie for breakfast!

My Roots: I grew up in England and my dad was in the Royal Navy so we moved every two years. We stayed for a bit in Bath, England. I went to boarding school for high school so I could be in one place. My parents immigrated to Canada when I was 16 and I went to university there. Then I moved to Ireland for four years and then moved to Ohio where I am now. I’m British-Canadian-American.

My Future: Continue to keep growing the business and be as good a parent as I can be. Once the girls are older, traveling more!

My Love(s): My family. And, I love music. That’s how I met my husband; on a street corner in Ontario, trying to get into a concert. I love to laugh. I also love what I do for a living and using my brain to be creative.

My Movie: “The Good, the Bad and The Ugly,” “The Sound of Music,” “Lord of the Rings,” and “Harry Potter.” I like a variety of things, but I’m not a big fan of chick flicks.

My Quote on Life: Just Do It.

My Accessory: My thumb ring.

My Advice to Young Women: Whenever you are starting in your career or your life, it really is only the beginning of the rest of your life. The decisions you make then have impact but you aren’t pigeon holed into your choice forever. Trust you will find your path – if it makes you happy you can be successful. You will work it out yourself. Hang out with excellent people so you can see what is out there. Learn what your version of success is.

How I Balance it All: You can’t! You always have to make priorities. You have to say what you are not going to do. Find help where you can. Share with your partner. You have to let perfection go.

My Advice to Young Women: Oh, so much…but most importantly, go to college, live on your own, travel all the time, move to a new city all by yourself, always have confidence in yourself, surround yourself with great people and never, ever settle!

How I Balance it All: Ha. That changes every day but I really think the key to life is balance and moderation in everything you do. Always make time for yourself and don’t ever feel guilty doing so. Ask for help if you feel overwhelmed and keep it all in perspective!

Woman of the Week – Aneca Lasley

Each week, we feature a fantastic new woman we think you should know. Some of these women are clients, some are friends, some are women we’ve only just met. But they all have this in common: they are dynamic, interesting gals who have agreed to share with us their insights and secrets to success.

Aneca Lasley

My Love:
My daughter Ayva who amazes, inspires and challenges me on a daily basis.

My Accessory:
Shoes!

My Advice to Young Women:
Mentors perform a very important role, but when it comes to career advancement you really need a sponsor or champion. Sponsors or champions are defined by their clout within your organization, their ability to open doors and their willingness to advocate on your behalf. Take control of your professional development by seeking out and developing a relationship with someone who will be your champion.

How I Balance it All:
I don’t. “Balance” is a misnomer. I’m a juggler and my success derives from my ability to be flexible and capable of reordering my priorities when necessary to enable me to be responsive to the needs of my family, my clients, my firm and my friends without losing myself in the process.
